On Tuesday, December 5, 2006, the committee and
interested members of the public toured the proposed
spent fuel disposal facility being developed by the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
Financial support for the committee tour was provided by
the Midwest Office of the Council of State Governments (CSG),
under a U.S. DOE grant.
The tour was designed so that all presentations
regarding spent fuel management and the Yucca Mountain
facility, apart from the tour itself, and all committee
discussions of the topic took place at the committee's
regular meetings on November 15 and December 14, 2006,
in the State Capitol, Madison.
