MADISON… Today is a wonderful day for the children of Milwaukee. Now that Senate Bill 618 has been signed into law, thousands of at-risk children will continue to have the opportunity to get a good education and succeed in life.
I am so very proud to have been involved in this compromise effort to lift the enrollment cap and end the arbitrary eligibility and income barriers to participation.
The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program has grown by leaps and bounds in just the past few years. There are currently 10,000 families and just fewer than 15,000 children participating. It would never have achieved such numbers if so many participating families did not feel it was a better alternative than MPS.
