Statement on Davies Center Project being included in Senate Budget

Madison – The Senate Democrats announced today that UW-Eau Claire’s Davies Center project will be put back in the budget. The $43 million project, which will be funded entirely through student fees and bonding and will include no state taxpayer money, was removed from the budget by the Joint Committee on Finance.

“I’m pleased that my colleagues have given this project their support. I was very disappointed to see it fall victim to the partisan games we saw in the Joint Finance Committee. The fact is that this project will not be paid for by Wisconsin taxpayers, but by student fees, a decision that was made by the student body. This project will have a large economic impact beyond campus and I hope that the partisanship that caused this project to be removed in the first place will not strike again.

“Getting this project back in the budget is a big victory and we were able to do this because of the strong support the project has in the Eau Claire area. I encourage citizens who want this project to remain in the budget to contact their State Representative and ask them to keep the Davies Center building project in the Assembly version of the budget.”
